Creating Your First Chart
Let’s walk through creating your first chart in ChartPuppy. By the end of this guide, you’ll have a beautiful chart ready to share.
Step 1: Choose a Chart Type
From your dashboard, click New Chart and select a chart type:
- Bar Chart - Great for comparing categories
- Line Chart - Perfect for trends over time
- Pie Chart - Ideal for showing proportions
- Area Chart - Good for cumulative data
Step 2: Enter Your Data
You have several options for adding data:
Manual Entry
Click on the data table and enter your values directly. Each row represents a data point.

Upload CSV
Click Import CSV and upload a file. ChartPuppy will automatically detect columns and data types.
Connect a Source
Link a Google Sheet or API endpoint for automatic data updates. See Data Sources for details.
Step 3: Customize Your Chart
Colors
Choose from preset palettes or create your own. Click any color swatch to customize.
Labels
- Title - The main chart heading
- Subtitle - Additional context
- Axis Labels - Describe your X and Y axes
- Legend - Label your data series
Styling
Adjust fonts, sizes, and spacing to match your brand.
Step 4: Preview and Export
Click Preview to see how your chart will look. Then export in your preferred format:
- PNG - Best for social media
- SVG - Perfect for websites (scales to any size)
- Link - Shareable URL that always shows the latest data
